Urid Whole Gota is the common blackgram, matpe beans, or urad, that have been peeled and skinned but not split. It is soaked overnight in water before being used in lentil curries, rasams, stews, and other dishes, it can also be split and used as the famous urid dal. Urid whole gota is rich in proteins, fiber (soluble and insoluble), sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, and iron. It is used throughout the Indian subcontinent in various dishes, and in various forms. Urid whole gota with the peel is black in color and is called black gram. The whole beans are mostly soaked overnight in water, and then incorporated into many dishes; they are also made into a paste after being soaked in water and used as the batter for many north and south Indian dishes.
